Abstract

1471993 Cam-operated switches; time switches P R MALLORY & CO Inc 12 July 1974 [12 July 1973] 30924/74 Heading H1N A switch for selectively completing a plurality of circuits comprises a rotatable cam 18 having at least four different levels, at least four terminals 2, 3, 4, 5 carried by an insulating base 1 in a substantially straight line spaced from, and in alignment with the rotational direction of, said cam 18, a first contact blade 8 affixed to a first terminal 5 at an end of said line with at least one contact 9 at its free end and a cam follower 17 between the fixed and free ends engaging said cam 18, a second contact blade 11 affixed to a second terminal 4 next to the first terminal 5 and means 15 carried by base 1 to limit the travel of blade 11, at least one contact 12 carried by said blade 11 between its ends, a first stationary contact 16 carried by a third terminal 3 for co-operation with contact 12, and a second stationary contact 7 carried by a fourth terminal 2 at the other end of said line for co-operation with contact 9, the arrangement being such that on engagement of follower 19 with at least one of the cam levels the first blade 8 will entrain the second blade 11 to move the latter relative to the travel-limiting means 15 and the stationary contact 16. Cam 18 may be driven by an electric motor to provide a timer, for example. As shown, extra co-operating contacts 10 and 13 provide the entrainment between blades 8 and 11, but in an alternative embodiment blade 11 carries an insulating spacer (23, Fig. 2, not shown) which allows blade 8 to move blade 11 without closing a circuit between terminals 4 and 5.
