696,954. Colostomy appliances. BERG, S. July 16, 1951 [Aug. 11, 1950], No. 20025/50. Class 81 (ii). A colostomy appliance comprises inner and outer belts, the inner one holding the discharge receiver and a deodorizing pad and the outer one having an aperture or bulge to accommodate the deodorizing pad and discharge vessel without pressure. The outer belt is made of reinforced corsetry material panels 22, 24, 28 with an elastic panel 25 over the colostomy, this panel being shaped to bulge centrally and having an aperture 27 so as to avoid pressure on the artificial opening. The inner belt 6 is wholly of elastic material and has a pocket 7 which accommodates a quilted concave pad containing charcoal, this being placed outside an absorbent pad but held away from it, to avoid pressure, by a perforated rigid shield. The Specification also describes the use of the deodorizing pad with a discharge collecting vessel, in which case the pocket in the inner belt carries the charcoal pad which covers and surrounds a receiving chamber having a discharge tube connected thereto.
