555,852. Colotomy appliances. BRADLEY & BLISS, Ltd., and SPICE, E. A. May 8, 1942, No. 6242. [Class 81 (ii)] A colotomy belt comprises a flexible body plate 7, Figs. I & 3, having a hole or aperture surrounded by an internally-directed circular flange 8, a tubular shoot member 9, Fig. 4, having a circular mouth 13 adapted to fit on the flange 8 and bayonet-fastening members 11, 12 at diametrically-opposite points of the mouth and flange for locating the member 9 on the plate 7 with its outlet tube 19 directed centrally downwards and for determining the extent of engagement of the mouth and flange so that a liquid tight joint can be obtained by providing a rubber washer 14 between then ; a bag or receptacle 15 is tied around the tube 19 or studs 16 on the tube may be provided for engaging slots in the mouth of the bag, the lower end of which may be open and closed when desired by the use of a clip 20. The member 9 may be replaced by an irrigation cap 10, Fig. 8, of dome shape having a central aperture 18 to admit a catheter and a circular mouth portion 13 with bayonetfastening elements 12 for co-operating with the element 11 in the flange 8 to give the liquid-tight joint with the washer 14. The flange 8 has an internal radially-directed flange 21 defining a recess at the inner side of the plate 7 for receiving a perforated member or grid for controlling the colotomy against the development of a hernia. The plate 7 is of celluloid or other washable material and has studs 6 adapted to engage elastic or other straps 4 at the ends of an adjustable belt 1.
