Abstract

1470934 Stoma irrigation apparatus HOLLISTER INC 14 March 1975 [18 March 1974] 10867/75 Heading A5R Stoma irrigation apparatus comprises a transparent or translucent colostomy bag 21, 22 having an aperture 23 in wall 21 secured around an aperture 15 in a member 11 by which the bag can be attached to a waist belt such that the stoma 16 protrudes through the apertures 15, 23 into the bag. A hollow cone 33 has its apex 34 inserted into the stoma and is provided with a tube 31 that leads back to a fluid reservoir. The tube is prevented from entering the stoma by virtue of the relative diameters of the tube and cone apex or by a shoulder on the latter. In the Fig. 2 mode of operation, the tube and cone are connected and the latter is inserted into the stoma via a self-sealing aperture 24 in the colostomy bag. Alternatively, (Fig. 3 mode of operation), the cone can be inserted through the open bag top and connected to the tube via the aperture 24. In another mode the cone and tube are connected and both inserted via the open bag top. The cone is of soft plastics except for a relatively rigid snap-fitted base 35. The open bag top may be rolled over and closed by clips.
