Abstract

811,950. Personal sanitary conveniences. FRANKENSTEIN & SONS (MANCHESTER) Ltd., SILVERSTONE, J., and SMITH, R. S. Jan. 6, 1958 [Jan. 12, 1957], No. 1255/57. Class 26. An expendable personal sanitary convenience comprises an impervious urine receiver 10 adapted to be secured in a resilient liquidtight and non-displaceable manner on the body, and connected to at least one relatively elongated pouch 21 of flexible impervious material each containing a filling 25 of initially compressed, highly absorbent material and adapted to extend along the inside of the lag. In the form shown, the curved edges 13 of the receiver 10 are cemented around the periphery of two discs 14, 15 with offset circular apertures 16, 17, the securing means comprising a triangular panel 18, tapes 19 and a loop 20. The other edges of the receiver are folded together to form a flat outlet 12 and are cemented to two flat pouches 21 which are hinged together and carry tapes 23 for occurring at knee level. Each pouch is divided into parallel pockets 24 containing loose strips 25 of compressed synthetic sponge, and each is fitted with a non-return valve formed by a V-sectional gusset 26 with small apertures 27 only in its side walls. Alternatively, two strips 25 may be disposed end-to-end in a narrower but longer pouch provided with additional tapes for securing round the ankle.
