696,444. Change-speed gear. CHRYSLER CORPORATION. Feb. 5, 1948 [Oct. 9, 1940], No. 1924/51. Drawings to Specification. Class 80 (ii). The subject-matter comprises part of that of the main Specification 696,411, but the claims are directed mainly to the arrangement of the centrifugal positive clutch which engages only on torque-release to provide a direct-drive, with overrun of a reducing gear-train in the countershaft gear unit (see Fig. 1 in the abridgment of the main specification). The main feature claimed is that the radially-movable centrifugal pawls are carried by the driving member, and the slotted shell which they engage is carried by the driven member. Specifications 696,442 and 696,443 also are referred to.
