[Also in Group XXXVI] A weatherproof transformer assembly-such as the type mounted on a pole in rural areascomprises a tank 15 having flat top and bottom walls 29 merging by curves into a cylindrical side wall, an electrical transformer 10 being secured in the tank in spaced relation with the top and side walls, an insulating liquid substantially filling the space between the transformer for circulation about the latter and to transfer heat therefrom to the tank, the shape of the tank enhancing airflow over and in contact with the exterior surface of the tank and the circulation of the liquid inside the tank, and electrical leads extending from the transformer through the walls of the tank in insulated relation thereto. The tank 15 comprises a pair of shallow cups 26, 27, each provided with a flange 28 at its open end. The transformer 10 is mounted in one of the cups, the flanges 28 then being placed together and welded to form an hermetically sealed tank. Terminals 20, 24, 25 are provided together with an earthing bracket 18, the whole assembly being filled wiih insulating liquid by means of a self-sealing filling plug 50. The transformer assembly is mounted on a wall, pole or the like by means of a channel member 40 and a ring 41, thus allow. ing the assembly to rotate so that the terminals 24, 25 may be arranged to suit existing line conditions. The interior surfaces of the tank are coated with vitreous enamel, as also may be the external surfaces of the transformer, so as to allow ur,.impeded circulation of the liquid filling. Ducts may be provided in the core and windings of the transformer to help this circulation. Specifications 593,434 and 696,257 are referred to.
