522,238. Leading-in conductors for discharge tubes; thermionic valve caps. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. Jan. 5, 1939, No. 433. Convention date, Jan. 8, 1938. [Class 39 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXVI] The leading-in conductors 5 to the electrodes of an electric discharge tube extend in the longitudinal direction through a base or cap 4 consisting of glass or similar vitreous material and are bent over at a short distance from the base so as to extend substantially normally to the axis of the tube, the parts 6 thus formed being used as detachable electric coupling members adapted to be inserted within bayonet joint slots in an insulating plate to engage resilient contacts 13 on the underside of the latter. The correct positioning of the devices is ensured by providing the base of the discharge tube with a pin 10 having a lug 12 thereon to engage within a correspondingly shaped aperture in the plate 8. The leading - in conductors 5 may be sealed within a cap 4 of moulded glass formed with a flange 3 whereby it may be fused to a flange 2 on the glass wall of a discharge tube 1. The leading-in conductors may consist of chrome-iron alloy, preferably of a thickness not greater than 1.2 m.m., and may be coated with a thin layer of glass or enamel before sealing in position. The contact portions 6 are preferably coated with a thin layer of material of good conductivity, such as silver.
