Tranformers.-In a tank A for containing insulating-oil or the like to be kept out of contact with the air, for example an electric transformer tank, access of the oil to the cover joint c of the tank is prevented by providing between the joint and the oil an air space E with a restricted surface in contact with the oil. For this purpose the cover is made in the form a dish-shaped plate C partly immersed in the oil, an annular air space E being left above the surface of the oil between the cover and the wall of the tank. The terminals D of the transformer may be mounted on a hollow socket on sleeve d fixed to the cover C, the height of the socket being sufficient to prevent the level of the oil from reaching the sealing- joint c<1>. The tank may be provided with an expansion chamber B, Fig. 2, or the space E may itself serve as an expansion chamber if the joints c are not hermetically closed. In the latter case, the cover C is preferably made with inclined walls as shown in Fig. 3.
