930,061. Electrolytic fusion cells. SOC. D'ELECTRO - CHIMIE, D'ELECTROMETALLURGIE ET DES ACIERIES ELECTRIQUES D'UGINE. April 26, 1962 [April 28, 1961], No. 16059/62. Class 41. An electrolytic cell especially for fusion electrolysis, consists of a cell 2 having a flange rim 8 and a lid having a similar flange 7, and an inner basket electrode 4 also with a flange 9 which is clamped between the upper and lower flanges and insulated therefrom by seals 12, 13. The holding bolts also have insulating sleeves 18. Flanges are cooled by water conduits 14, 15. Electrode 19 is attached to the basket which is provided with an anode 6 immersed in the molten electrolyte 3, the refined metal being deposited on the cathode. Alternatively the anode may be unrefined metal 5 held in the basket. The cell wall is not therefore at cathode potential, and a different potential from that of the cathode may be applied to it as a secondary electrode.
