Abstract

695,658. Cycle forks. DIXON, M. G. (Lars Oftedahl Thorkildsen). April 10, 1951, No. 8315/51. Class 136 (iii) In a resilient bicycle fork of the kind in which the fork is divided into two parts 1, 2 connected with each other at the crown, and provided with pressure plates 3, 4, between which is disposed a resilient filling 5 so that the lower part may swing out in relation to the upper part when the fork is subjected to an impact, the pressure plates 3, 4 are connected only by two or more bolts 6 or 6<SP>1</SP>, or by guide pins 6<SP>11</SP> whereby axial impacts in the fork can be absorbed without a swinging movement. As shown in Fig. 1, the part 2 of the fork is provided with an opening 8 through which nuts 9 are attached to the bolts 6. The opening 8 is normally closed by a mudguard 7. The nuts 9 rest against the walls of the fork and are therefore locked against turning, the bolts being screwed from above into the nuts. The bearing surfaces of the nuts are rounded off to allow the swinging movement of the part 2 in relation to the part 1. This swinging movement may be regulated by adjusting screws in the upper pressure plate 3 being screwed down against the lower pressure plate 4. A depending flange 10 is provided on the plate 3 to cover the resilient filling 5 and strengthen the pressure plate 3. The bolts 6<SP>1</SP> may be made solid with the pressure plate 3, Fig. 5, or may be replaced by guide pins 6<SP>11</SP> locked by a bolt 11, Fig. 6. Alternatively, the pressure plates 3, 4 may be connected by a single centrally disposed screw bolt with two guide pins provided laterally thereof.
