695,411. Cold and heat retaining vessels. GERDES C. April 25, 1951 [April 26, 1950], No. 9678/51 Class 64 (ii) In a double-walled vacuum-jacketed vessel in which part or all of the space between the walls 1, 2 forms the vacuum jacket and the side of the inner wall 1 facing the jacket is made reflecting, the space between the walls 1, 2 is divided up by one or more reflecting partitions 3 which are spaced over the major parts of their areas from the walls 1, 2 and from one another if there is more than one. Small distance pieces 4 of low conductivity, aligned or staggered, may be provided. Alternatively, as in Fig. 6, the partitions are joined to one another and to the walls 1, 2 along their top and bottom edges. In this form, the partitions 3 may form one boundary of the evacuated space. The air space above them is closed by a rubber or other cover 5. Similar partitions may be provided in the bottom part of the evacuated space. The partitions 3 may be made of iron-nickel or iron-nickel-chromium alloys or other alloys or metals of low heat conductivity. The inner wall 1 may have a coating of enamel, chromium, aluminium, zinc or other material to make it impervious to hydrogen ions. The vessel may have a vacuum-jacketed cover which may enclose the sides of the vessel. The vacuum space of the cover may contain partitions. The outer wall 1 of the metal vessel, and the adjacent wall of the cover, may be corrugated. A metal pipe may extend from the inner space of the vessel through its vacuum jacket.
