A portable refrigerator which may be carried e.g. as a suitcase, comprises a thermallyinsulated container having a top opening closed by an easily detachable cover 2, and a thermal accumulator 3 detachably mounted below the inner surface of the cover, the thermal accumulator comprising a sealed container filled with a chemical refrigerant. The accumulator is spaced from the cover and has two lugs 3<SP>1</SP> which engage recesses in the cover 2, and an aperture 3<SP>11</SP> engaged by a rotatable latch 4.
