Abstract
695,123. Tool handles. CARR, J. J. May 23, 1951 [May 23, 1950], No. 12922/50. Class 61 (i). A handle for files and other tools having tapered tangs comprises an aluminium alloy casting having secured thereto a case-hardened, thread-cutting nut whereby threads are cut on the tang on screwing the tool into the handle. The handle 1 has a longitudinal central hole 2 enlarged at 3 to form hexagonal recess wherein is secured the nut 11 by a collar 12 screwed into the end of the handle. The pointed end of the tang is supported by a cylindrical member 7 slidable in the central hole and urged towards the open end thereof by a spring 6. The Provisional Specification describes. also a wooden handle wherein the nut is fitted into a hexagonal recess in a hollow member having ears which engage in slots in the handle, the assembly being secured to the handle by a ferrule.
