Abstract

681,319. Hand tool handles. LOBLITE, Ltd. May 28, 1951 [July 14, 1950], No. 17657/50. Class 61 (i). Screwdrivers and other tools wherein the blade is retractable into a hollow handle are provided with an apertured spring loaded catch on the handle which allows the blade to be secured in working or stored positions. The handle 1 has a bore of non-circular cross section corresponding to that of the screwdriver blade 3, one end of the bore being closed by a screw plug 2. A V-shaped spring catch 6 has one arm 7 seated in a groove in the handle, the other arm 5, which is apertured at 8 to receive the blade, being slidable in a transverse passage in the handle. The arm 5 engages in a notch 9 in the blade to lock the blade in extended position. A second notch may be provided to enable the blade to be locked in stored position. An ejection spring may be provided. In a modification, the catch comprises a spring loaded apertured bolt slidable in a transverse slot in the handle. In another modification, the blade-receiving bore is off-set from the central longitudinal axis of the handle, a torch light and lens being housed in the remainder of the handle.
