Abstract

694,893. Electro-deposition of copper. WILMOT-BREEDEN, Ltd. Dec. 7, 1951 [Feb. 19, 1951], No. 3946/51. Class 41. Barium hydroxide is added to a bath containing copper cyanide, sodium and/or potassium hydroxide and sodium thiosulphate in order to precipitate carbonates and sulphates formed during use. The bath may contain about 40 lbs. of barium hydroxide to 900 gallons of solution. The barium hydroxide may be supplied to a small tank through which a part of the bath is continuously circulated, a filter being provided for removal of precipitates. The copper when so deposited on a die-cast zinc base alloy forms a superior base for the reception of a nickel deposit.
