Abstract

1323750 Reconditioning wash water LANCY LABORATORIES Inc 21 Sept 1970 [12 Feb 1970] 44941/70 Heading C1C Water which has been used to wash surfaces which have been metal plated in a cyanide metal plating bath (e.g. electroplating bath), and which contains plating metal held in solution by a chelating compound, and chlorine, is reconditioned for use by treating it with a solution or dispersion of a salt of a metal less noble than the plating metal so that the metal of the salt replaces the plating metal in the chelate and the plating metal precipitates out. In reconditioning, chlorine and alkali metal hydroxide may be added to the wash water. The surfaces may have been plated with tin, brass, copper, cadmium, silver or nickel. Salts (e.g. chlorides) of calcium, lithium, barium, aluminium and magnesium may be used. In one embodiment the wash waters from a group of metal plating lines using different plating metals may be combined and reconditioned for use in any of the lines.
