Abstract
1,133,679. Coating with metals. PECHINEY COMPAGNIE DE PRODUITS CHIMIQUES ET ELECTROMETALLURGIQUES. Aug. 17, 1967 [Aug. 19, 1966], No. 37988/67. Headings C7B and C7F. Prior to electro-plating aluminium with e. g. Cu, Ni, Ag, Cd or Cr, the surface of the aluminium is contacted with a solution (pH 2 to 6) containing 5 to 100 g. /l of zinc fluoborate, 5 to 100 g. /l. of nickel fluoborate and 0À1 to 50 g. /l of magnesium ions which may be added as the oxide, hydroxide, or salt, e. g. carbonate or sulphate. The treatment may be repeated with an intermediate treatment in nitric acid. The aluminium surface may be first degreased in trichloroethylene and then in an electrolytic bath containing 100 g. /l of trisodium phosphate, 20g. /l. of sodium carbonate and 5 g. /l. of sodium silicate, and finally rinsed and cleaned in a sulphochromic bath. The electro-plating includes copper coated with cadmium or two coating of silver.
