Abstract

1454576 Bright zinc electro-plating LEARONAL Inc 20 June 1974 [9 July 1973] 27495/74 Heading C7B In the electro-deposition of bright or semibright Zn from an aqueous alkaline bath containing 0-15 gpl free CN and an agent which gives a bright or semi-bright Zn deposit in the absence of impurities in the bath, a soluble silicate is added to the bath and/or to water used to rinse the substrate prior to plating in a quantity sufficient to ensure production of a bright deposit when the water hardness and/or other impurities in the bath would cause a dull, smeary or smutty deposit. The silicate may be water glass, or Na di-, ortho- or metasilicate in a quantity of 0À001-2 oz/gal. Baths based on ZnO in NaOH with or without NaCN may be used containing a brightener (1) a blend of anisic aldehyde bisulphite and the reaction product of epichlorhydrin and ethylenediamine or dimethylaminopropylamine or (2) the reaction product of diethanolamine, HCHO, epichlorhydrin and a-picoline.
