Class 39(ii) In a flashing lamp of the kind wherein the flashing filament is effected by a bimetallic strip within the bulb, the bimetallic strip 6 has one end secured to a leading-in wire 7 and the other permanently connected to one end of the filament 4, an intermediate supporting wire 5 for the filament having a short lateral wire 13 welded to it in a position to make contact with the bimetallic strip when the latter becomes heated and bends inwardly towards it, thus short-circuiting the part 2 of the filament. In a modification Fig. 2 (not shown), provided with an inverted V-shaped filament similar to that shown in Fig-. 1, a bimetallic strip is connected between each end of the filament and the ends of a pair of leading-in wires, and a central supporting wire with a looped eye at its upper end to engage the apex of the filament is formed with a larger loop in a position adjacent to the two bimetallic strips, thus providing short-circuiting contacts against which the bimetallic strips abut when bending inwardly. In a further modification an inverted U-shaped filament is provided with two supporting wires each of which is kinked outwardly in a position adjacent to a bimetallic strip connected between an end of the filament and a leading-in wire, the kinked parts of the wires providing short-circuiting contacts with the bimetallic strips. When a bimetallic strip is associated with each leading-in wire they are arranged so that the respective halves of the filament are shortcircuited either simultaneously or alter-- nately. An aluminium oxide cut-out 8 may be connected across the leading-in wires in. known manner.
