Abstract

694,272. Drafting apparatus. CASABLANCAS HIGH DRAFT CO, Ltd. Dec. 20, 1951 [June 13, 1951], No. 14058/51. Class 120(ii) A drafting apparatus of the kind in which a number of drafting units, each including co-operating top and bottom drafting rollers, are arranged side by side, and in which roller bosses are mounted in pairs on common axes, with an intermediate relatively rotatable neck portion between, each pair of bosses, constituting, respectively, top rollers for two adjacent units, the roller bosses being carried by a pivoted support arm 26 which engages the neck portion between said bosses, and, employing superposed endless belt loops 1 and 2 carried at their rear ends on top and bottom drafting rollers 3 and 5, wherein the belt loops are guided laterally and supported at the forward ends by separate upper and lower cradles riding respectively on the top and bottom drafting rollers 3 and 5, is characterized in that said cradles are adapted to be releasably coupled together in the operative position and are so arranged that the upper cradle together with the associated top roller can be lifted from, or returned to, the operative position by raising or lowering the support arm 26 about its pivot 27. As shown the walls 7 of the bottom cradle are provided with upwardly and rearwardly extending hook portions 17 which merge into the upper edges of said walls to form inclined guiding surfaces 18. The upper cradle which is somewhat narrower than the lower cradle has side walls 19 from each of which extends laterally projecting pins 21 which engage with the hook portions 17 of the lower cradle and are so arranged that when the support arm 26 is swung up about its pivot 27 the pins 21 slide out of engagement with the hook portions 17. Conversely when the support arm is lowered again the pins 21 contact the guiding surfaces 18 and slide down these and into engagement with the hook portions 17 to releasably hold the two cradle parts together. The weighting of the rollers is provided by the support arm 26.
