Class 100(ii) In a rotary printing machine multiple engraved cylinders coacting with a single impression cylinder are each mounted in a block guided by a slide radial to the impression cylinder and connected by a lever or link mechanism to a spring-loaded pneumatically operated diaphragm in a sealed casing, whereby resilient printing pressures which may be individually controlled are applied. As shown the bearing blocks 4 of the four engraved cylinders 3, mounted in radial slides 5, are connected by adjustable screws 6 to nuts 8 pivoted intermediately of levers 9, 34 connected by links and bellcrank mechanisms 11 ... 17 and 35 ... 37 to pneumatic servomotors 19. In each motor, Fig. 3, controlled air pressure admitted through a connection 23 causes a diaphragm 18 to press on a plate 27 in opposition to a spring 31 acting through a washer 30, nut 29 and rod 25 screwed into the plate 27; the latter is secured at 28 to the link 17 or 37. An air pressure gauge associated with each motor 19 gives an indication of the printing pressure for each colour individually.
