Classes 20(iv) and 87(i) A reinforced element, e.g. an apertured slab 1 of low quality concrete comprises one or more reinforcing bars 2 of prestressed high quality concrete, embedded in it with their ends totally enclosed. The bars 2, which may be trapezium, rectangular or triangular cross-section with more than one pretensioned high tensile steel wire 3 providing the stress, may have lateral projections to assist bonding with the low quality concrete cast round them and their ends terminate a short distance from the ends of the slab.
