Abstract

A load-bearing reinforced-concrete structural member, such as a beam or bridge-deck slab, composed of concrete and including both upper and lower stress-reinforcing means with its lower stress-reinforcing means being reinforcing metal bars embedded in concrete and its upper stress-reinforcing means being the uppermost 20 to 45 percent of the member and of a fibrous-concrete material consisting essentially of closely spaced short wires uniformly distributed randomly in concrete at an average spacing therebetween of less than 0.3 inch.
