723,619. Reinforced concrete beams and columns. A. & C. BUILDINGS, Ltd., and WAELEND, J. P. Dec. 15, 1953 [Dec. 30, 1952], No. 33017/52. Class 20 (4). A prestressed structural member is made by aligning groups of pre-cast concrete components, each group being separated from an adjacent group by a transverse spacing element, the components of each group being spaced apart and having tensioned and grouted wires on rods extending longitudinally between them. Each group may consist of a pair of components 4 jointed to spacing blocks 5 apertured at 9 for the passage therethrough of wires 10 which are embedded after tensioning in concrete or cement grout 17. Unitary terminal blocks 13, 15 are jointed to the end components of a member and may be provided with the usual cone-type anchoring device 12. An additional layer of concrete may be applied to the upper surface of a rafter or beam. The rafter is formed from tapering components so that it has a greater depth at the middle than at the ends.
