Abstract
707,447. Reinforced concrete. STRESSED CONCRETE DESIGN, Ltd. July 2, 1951 [June 26, 1950; Oct. 9, 1950], Nos. 15941/50 and 24609/50. Class 20 (4) Reinforcing wires 1-4 are threaded through a longitudinal passageway 6 in a concrete member 7, the wires at one end being embedded in a concrete block 5 and tensioned and anchored at the other end. The wires are embedded in the block 5 either before being threaded through the passageway, or the block 5 may be cast around the ends of the wires protruding from the passageway. The ends of the wires may be bent to increase the bond with the block. The wires are passed through holes 8 in an anchor plate 9 and tensioned, the space between the plate 9 and the member 7 being maintained by a frame to permit the space to be filled in with concrete which, when set, allows the frame and plate 9 to be removed. In Fig. 3, the horizontal member 16 is cast with a pillar 14 and has a longitudinal passageway 18, formed by a removable rubber core. It projects towards another pillar 15 but is spaced therefrom, the space A being filled with concrete after the reinforcement wires 1-4 have been passed through the passage 18 and looped around the reinforcements 19, 20 of the pillar 15, or around horizontal reinforcements of the structure. Tension is applied and the wires are anchored by known means 23. The recess 24 is filled in with concrete. The passageways 6, 18 may be filled in with grout. An expansion joint 26 is provided between the bays, and more than two bays may be constructed. Specification 690,981 is referred to.
