Abstract
613,901. Reinforced concrete members; posts. BILLIG, K. May 1, 1947, No. 11660. [Classes 20(i) and 20(iv)] Prestressed concrete frame units comprise a longitudinal member or members precompressed by highgrade wires initially tensioned to not less less than 40 tons per square inch, and a number of transverse concrete diaphragms with reinforcements extending into and forming connections with the longitudinal members. As shown, a lattice pole comprises longitudinal members 30 with evenly-distributed compressor wires 27 extending throughout their length, and transverse diaphragms 25 with reinforcements consisting of loops 31 with bars 32 welded to them. The diaphragms may be precast, the exposed parts of the reinforcement being then cast into the longitudinal members, or the reinforcement may be first cast into the longitudinal members and the diaohragms then cast round it after the longitudinal members have been prestressed. The prestressed wires 27 may be bonded to the concrete during setting, and may consist of double or triple wires twisted or plaited together to increase the bonding effect. Alternatively, the wires may be anchored at their ends to the concrete and pass through pipes or sheaths which prevent bonding, the prestressing being applied after the concrete has hardened, after which the wires may be bonded by grout filled into the pipes or sheaths. Other units described are a post of tubular section with transverse diaphragms, hollow beams for floors, and a beam comprising upper and lower beams connected by spaced vertical diaphragms.
