692,831. Contacting gases with liquids. AKTIEBOLAGET HEDEMORA VERKSTADER. March 15, 1951 [March 16, 1950], No. 6249/51. Class 55(ii) Apparatus for contacting gases with liquids comprises connected chambers 1 each having openings 4 and 5 for liquid and gas and containing a body of liquid into which dips a series of rotary discs 12 spraying liquid into the upper part of the chamber and urging it to flow towards the openings 5 which are provided with adjustable and elongated weir devices 8 which control the level of liquid in the chamber. Gas and liquid enter and leave by pipes 18 and 2 and 19 and 7 respectively. The openings 4 and 5 and the weirs 8 preferably extend the entire width of the chambers and baffles 14, 15 and 26 may be provided adjacent the discs 12. In modifications the discs 12 may be replaced by members which do not spray the liquid or the discs may have paddles attached to them to increase their liquid propelling effect. Also the apparatus may comprise a single chamber or two or more chambers arranged in series or in parallel.
