Abstract
331,818. Watson, S. G., Henshaw, D. M., and Holmes & Co., Ltd., W. C. April 3, 1929. Washers. - Apparatus for bringing liquids and gases into intimate contact, comprises a chamber divided by partitions 4 into communicating compartments each containing brushes 1 which are secured against rotation and associated with means to distribute water over them. The brushes are stationary or may be oscillated. Gas enters by valve 25 and pipe 23 into the chamber containing brushes 1 mounted on backings removably attached to both sides of vertical plates 2. The gas passes through apertures 33, 34 alternately at the top and bottom of partitions 4 in the chamber. Water is circulated by pumps from the base to sprays 14, which may be movable. The water passes by oxerflows 18 at different levels to a trapped outlet 19. The gas is delivered to a pipe 24 with a valve 26, or may pass without washing through a valve 30 and pipe 29. The gas may pass through an empty chamber 35 at each end of the brushes, and the holes in the partitions may be at the edges, guiding the gas from side to side. According to the Provisional Specification, rotary brushes may be used. Specifications 5113/95, 162,166, 275,092 and 283,028 are referred to.
