692,810. Closures for resisting fluid pressure. PRESTONE COOKERS, Ltd. April 12, 1951 [Nov. 4, 1950], No. 26990/50. Class 123 (i). A substantially elliptical opening 3 in the top 2 of a pressure vessel 1, e.g. a digester, is closed by an internally-located closure plate 4 the periphery 5 of which is held, with the interposition of a packing ring 6, against a seating surface 7 within the vessel by a bridge member 8 extending across said opening 3. The bridge 8, which has a length less than the largest dimension of the opening 3, is resiliently mounted on a post 11 extending upwardly from the closure 4 through a helical spring 13, and it may have an integral handle 14 which, when the closure is removed from the vessel, normally lies so that one end of the bridge is disposed between two fixed stops 15 on the closure.
