Abstract

692.766. Shredding corn-stalks. HORN MANUFACTURING CO. Jan. 7, 1952, No. 499/52. Class 6(iii) Relates to shredding machines for standing-corn stalks of the type wherein a transverse rotary shaft 10 carries pivoted vertical flails 11 Acccrding to the invention, the flails are mounted at their inner ends on resilient bushes 17. The rotor shaft 10 is formed with parallel upstanding ears 22, between each pair of which is mounted a bearing 18 clamped to the ears by a bolt 24. The rubber bush 17 surrounds the bearing 18 and frictionally connects it to a tubular housing 14 formed on the end of the flail 11. The flails can thus move temporarily to clear obstructions.
