Abstract

691,940. Rotary filters. TATTERSALL, F. MARSHALL, G. A., and SATTERLY, H. H. Oct. 15, 1951 [Oct. 17, 1950], No. 25298/50. Class 46 An outward flow rotary drum filter in which the unstrained liquid is fed to the interior of the drum through a tube arranged co-axially with the axis of rotation of the drum is provided with means for measuring the flow through the drum by the drop of pressure in the unstrained liquid as it enters the tube. As shown the drum 1 with cylindrical filtering surface 4 is closed at both ends by circular plates 3, 3<SP>1</SP> rotatable on bearings 6 supported on a tube 2 coaxial with the drum. The tube has an internal partition 11 forming two compartments, one, 9, serving for the discharge of debris washed into the troughs from the filter surface 4 by sprays 21, and the other, viz. 10 having circular openings 18 which serve for the supply of the unstrained liquid entering the tube through a bellmouth opening 14 from a chamber fed from a storage channel 16 through a sluice 17. A pipe 30 communicating with the chamber outside the bellmouth 14 records the pressure of water in the chamber before entering the tube 2 and a pipe 29 connected to compartment 10 of tube 2 records the pressure of the water after passing through the bellmouth.
