Abstract

651,597. Centrifugal-separators. INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER CO. OF GREAT BRITAIN, Ltd. Aug. 19, 1948, No. 21906. Convention date, Sept. 8, 1947. [Class 23] In a self-washing separator 10, including a bowl 11 having a disc pack 23 and a peripheral outlet 18 for washing liquid controlled by a valve 18<SP>1</SP>, deflector means 42 are provided outside the bowl for directing washing liquid discharged from a container 35 against the inner edges 28 of the disc pack. The deflector has circumferentially spaced holes 44 and is fixed to the container discharge 36. A milk feed unit 48 having a valve 51 is raised to supply washing liquid through the holes 44 and the annular space between the milk feed tube 50 and the deflector. A sheet metal casing 38 has collecting chambers 39, 40 provided with discharge tubes 40<SP>1</SP>, 41, and supports the container. An aperture in the base of the casing permits the bowl to be directly driven by an electric motor 33. The Specification states that the separating speed is 10,000 r.p.m. and that the valve 18<SP>1</SP> opens at 6,000 r.p.m. In a modification the deflector is replaced by a thicker element having peripheral flutes forming passages for the washing liquid. Specifications 614,501 and 643,716 are referred to.
