Abstract

738,825. Centrifugal separators. SUMIYA, S. Sept. 4, 1952, No. 22286/52. Class 23. In a strainer separator comprising a rotary inverted basket 3, a rotary scraper 9 and a feedpipe 5 supplying material through apertures 2 to the interior of the basket, a charge is fed to the separator and the separated solids are removed from the basket wall for discharge during one revolution of the scraper. The basket is carried by a shaft 1 driven by a motor 14. The shaft of a rotary valve 4 in the feed pipe and the shaft 10 of the scraper are driven from the shaft 1 by means of reduction gearing so that for 900 revolutions of the basket, the valve and scraper make ¢ and 1 revolution respectively. When the scraper is in the sector I (Fig. 5) the valve is open and material is fed to the basket, and when the scraper is in the sectors II, III, IV the valve is closed whilst the material is separated and discharged. In a modification in which the scraper and valve rotate at the same speed and the valve is a two-way one, washing liquid is supplied after the separation. In a further modification a valve, linked with the valve in the feed-pipe, is fitted in the drain 13 for the separated liquid so that separated liquid and washing liquid may be collected separately. The axis of the scraper may be inclined instead of vertical as shown, and the scraper may rotate in the opposite direction to that shown in Fig. 5.
