749,261. Filters. APPARATEBAU GES. May 4,1953, No. 12311/53. Class 46. A suspension is fed freely or under pressure to a peripheral chamber 51 of a stationary housing 3 surrounding an inward flow drum 1, provided with axial ribs 2, the filtrate being discharged through conventional pipes 7 and control device 6. To the second chamber 52, separated from 51 by a radially-adjustable separating member 4, washing medium is supplied, and to chamber 53, air or compressed air for drying the cake. The chamber 54 for withdrawal of the cake may be closed, and the cake removed by endless screw, bucket-wheel or the like instead of the scraper shown. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown), the washing chamber 52 is subdivided by a further separating member, and by means of the control device 6 the washing filtrate coming from the second of these subdivisions is returned to the first, thus passing in counter-current to the cake movement. Also, a plurality of apertures for separating members is provided so that the chambers may be varied in length or further subdivided. The length of the separating members 4 is preferably the same as that of the drum. Preferably, also, they are adjustable during operation of the filter.
