Abstract

691,101. Treating gases with discharges. NICCOLI, P. Jan. 14, 1949 [Jan. 17, 1948], No. 1138/49. Class 39(i). An ozonizer consists of two coaxial tubular dielectrics 2, 3 spaced apart by elements so as to provide a number of axially extending passages, and inner and outer thin flexible electrodes 6, 7, the whole being immersed in insulating liquid such as oil, and the inner electrode forming a compartment for further insulating liquid, so that the pressure of the liquid secures good contact between the electrodes and the dielectrics. The liquid also serves for cooling. As shown, a cooling coil 17 is immersed in the outer body of liquid, but the liquid may be circulated through a separate cooler. The liquid circulates as shown, from pump 10 through the inner electrode compartment 6, and outer compartment 1 back to the pump. The air circulates through the passages 4 between the dielectrics, and then through the central pipe 14. The dielectrics may each be made of several thin sheets of material such as micanite or synthetic resin, and the electrodes may be of copper or brass, sheets of tin-foil being interposed between the electrodes and the dielectrics.
