Abstract

<PICT:0420228/III/1> In ozonizers of the type in which each of the electrodes is arranged behind a dielectric, and air to be treated is passed through a space between the dielectrics and is thereby isolated from the electrodes, each dielectric has a roughened surface to which a solid electrode is applied directly, for example by burning or by electrodeposition, whereby the air gap between the electrode and the dielectric is eliminated. In a preferred form of construction, the ozonizer comprises two concentric cylindrical dielectrics 26 and 28 supported on lugs 31 arranged in end cap 30. The electrodes 25 and 27 are deposited on the inner and outer surfaces of the dielectrics 26 and 28 respectively, which are spaced apart to allow the passage of air which enters through holes 13 arranged in cap 12. The inner electrode 25 contacts with a hollow cylinder 24 preferably of aluminium by which contact with a high tension bus-bar 1 is made via terminal 7. The electrode 27 is in electrical connection with the outer casing 29, end-cap 30 and outlet pipe 5 by which connection to the opposite pole of the supply is made. The dielectrics are preferably made of silica to allow the passage of ultra-violet rays.
