690,557. Pipe joints. COMPAGNIE DE PONT-A-MOUSSON. March 28, 1950 [March 30, 1949], No. 7760/50. Class 99 (i). In a stuffing-box joint in which packing 3 is compressed by a bolted gland C having a skirt 9 surrounding the socket 2, the head of each bolt has an inclined surface 17 engaging a corresponding surface on the socket and a projection 19 engaging the skirt so arranged that the reaction lines from the contacting surfaces intersect at the axis of the bolt. The nut 14 bears on a boss 10 on the gland and has line contact therewith in a direction tangential to the gland circle.
