Ball-and-socket joints.-In a ball-and-socket joint the ball is divided transversely into two parts, one portion 19 being fixed to the end of the pipe 10, as by screwing, and separated from the other portion 9, which is rotatable on the pipe 10, by a thrust bearing, preferably cf the ball type shown. The socket 2 is oi the type in which the ball-recess is divided transversely by a bolted gland 2, a self-sealing packing-ring 12 being provided on the end of the ball portion 19.
