Abstract
690,412. Endless-chain mining-machines. SHEPPARD, W. V. Nov. 7, 1951, No. 26089/51. Addition to 622,618. Class 68(i) In a machine of the type disclosed in the parent Specification, the single shear cutter jib is replaced by twin shearing jibs 17, 18 disposed one at each side of the pivoted cantilever arm 22. The jib posts 20 of the jibs 17, 18 are formed integrally with a housing 21 that may be reversibly secured rigidly with the cantilever arm 22 and inclined to said arm by a wedge plate 33 disposed between said housing and said arm. The drive mechanism for the shear cutters comprises a shaft 24 extending through the housing and provided at each end with a cutter chain sprocket, the outer face of which is adapted for attachment of a coupling 28 and transmission shaft 29 for connection with the driving mechanism of the machine. Additional rigidity for the shearing structure is provided by a bar 40 secured between the structure and the machine frame.
