A beer &c. tap of the kind comprising a spigot part a for insertion into a bung hole of a barrel &c. and having a spring-loaded valve member g, and a separable nozzle part j with means for actuating the valve member is characterized in that the valve member is of hollow, cylindrical form open at its inner end and having a closed outer end coacting with an annular seat d screwed into the spigot part and has at least one lateral opening i adjacent its closed end. The valve member is opened, against its spring f, by a stem consisting of two parts n, o adjustably screwed together and locked by a grubscrew s. Movement of the stem is limited by engagement of a collar r and the end of the part o of the stem with shoulders p, q. The actuation may be effected either by a screw-thread on the part o of the stem, as shown, or by a hand-lever of bell-crank form pivoted on the nozzle part and engaging the stem. When the nozzle part is removed by unscrewing a union nut m a cap may be screwed over the end of the spigot part to prevent access to the valve member and to serve as a striking head for driving the part into a bung hole. In a modification, the spigot part, instead of being tapered, as shown, has external threads for screwing into a bung hole.
