689,020. Cold-retaining cabinets. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Dec. 18, 1951 [Dec. 23, 1950], No. 29611/51. Class 64 (ii) Relates to insulated cabinets, such as household refrigerators, of the kind in which the space between outer and inner compartments 2, 3 is traversed by spaced highly-reflective sheets 10 of aluminium foil or the like supported on corner spacer members 11. According to the invention the spacers 11 comprise flexible inflatable members, Fig. 6, of rubber or the like forming with the sheets 10 an insulation frame which is attached at 11a to the inner compartment. The members are deflated to facilitate insertion of the assembly, as shown in Fig. 4, through a reduced opening in the outer compartment, after which the members 11 are inflated to cause the insulation frame to fill the space between the side walls of the compartments. The base insulation is formed of a bevelled non-conducting frame 20 slotted to receive sheets 19 of aluminium foil. A lid is provided for closing the top of the cabinet.
