Abstract
760,338. Non-conducting coverings for heat; refrigerators. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Oct. 26, 1953 [Oct. 28, 1952], No. 29559/53. Classes 29 and 64(2) In an insulating structure comprising a relatively non-deformable wall 5 and a relatively deformable wall 8 sealed along their edges and spaced to define an evacuated space which contains a compressible filler material, the deformable wall 8 is corrugated and offset at 13 around its periphery adjacent to its sealing edge 11, to provide excess material which permits movement of the deformable wall towards the other wall under atmospheric pressure. In the freezer cabinet shown in inverted sectional elevation in the Figure, the inner side walls 8 and outer bottom wall bare made of deformable material, and move from the broken line position to the firm line position during evacuation. The sheet forming the inner side walls is also corrugated at 14 near its junction with the inner bottom wall 9 and at the vertical corners to allow for the movement during evacuation. A panel to be inserted between the inner and outer walls of a refrigerator or freezer is made in a similar way. The filler material may be glass fibre insulation.
