Abstract
688,728. Band clips. AIR CONTROL INSTALLATIONS, Ltd., GIBBESON, J. H., and TAYLOR, J. W. Dec. 4, 1951 [Dec. 4, 1950], No. 29670/50. Class 44 A band-clip for securing together two members, e.g. air ducts having abutting peripheral flanges, comprises a contractable band of U section adapted to embrace the flanges. In the form of Figs. 1 and 3 the band comprises two parts 10, 11 hinged together at 12 and provided at their other ends with a link 21 and toggle lever 24 respectively. The link 21 is of U section and curved to fit the band. It is pivoted to the band part by an eye 37 brazed thereto and has slots providing bars 34, 36. The lever 24 is also of U section and is pivoted to the band part 11 by an eye 29. A slot 26 firmed in the lever provides a projecting lug 26a under which one of the bars 34, 36 may hook as shown in Fig. 3. The lever is turned over-centre to the position of Fig. 1 to tighten the band. A strip of felt may be positioned in the trough of the band section to effect a seal against the edges of the flanges. The walls of the band section may be slotted as at 38 to increase flexibility. In another form a stirrup pivoted to an eye on one band part carries a screw adapted to exert clamping pressure on an abutment fixed to the other band part. The walls of the band section are crimped with radial corrugations to increase flexibility.
