Abstract

688,583. Making lock nuts. PUMMILL, E. W. Jan. 15, 1951, No. 1090/51. Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv). [Also in Group XXV] A lock nut is made by providing the nut body with an extension 11 having reversed frusto conical surfaces. A washer is produced having its opposite faces formed to a slight convex bevel and a bore such that the washer is a force fit on the extension. There is also a central groove 14. Under the action of force fitting the end faces become normal of the axis. The nut is tapped after assembly of the washer so that it is free running till clamping pressure is exerted. Assembling force fits.-The nut is supported on a pilot pin 19 during the assembly of the washer.
