Abstract
688,240. Rotary furnaces. BLANCHARD, P. April 16, 1951 [April 15, 1950], No. 8814/51. Class 51 (ii) [Also in Group XXVI] A rotary furnace comprises a stationary part forming a burner mounting and a rotary part forming a furnace chamber connected by a member having a spherical bearing surface centred approximately on the axis of rotation of the furnace chamber coacting with a spherical bearing surface on one part and a plane bearing surface perpendicular to the axis co-operating with a plane bearing surface on the other part. The rotary furnace chamber 4, Fig. 1, carries a plane bearing surface 2 co-operating with the plane bearing surface of the connecting member 1, and the burner mounting 5 carries a member with a spherical bearing surface 3 cooperating with a spherical bearing surface of the connecting collar 1. The burner mounting is pivoted about an axis 9 and urged against the furnace chamber. A tapered collar 11, Fig. 3, protects the bearing collar 1 and provides a channel for a cooling medium. Coolant channels 13 may be provided for the plane bearing surface 2. A member having a spherical bearing surface may be slidably mounted on the burner, and spring pressed against the bearing collar Fig. 4 (not shown). The spherical bearing surface on the burner mounting may be convex.
