Abstract
808,534. Cutting by fusion. HANCOCK, L. J. Sept. 6, 1957 [Sept. 7, 1956], No. 27414/56. Class 83 (4). In a flame cutting machine wherein the burner 3 is supported by a wheel 1 running on the surface of the plate X to be cut, the wheel is carried by a mounting 2 which holds it at an angle between 30 and 60 degrees to the plate surface. This enables the contact point 4 of the wheel to be near the burner. The wheel is supported on an axle 7 mounted on ball bearings 5 in a housing 6 carried by the floating head of the machine. Cooling air supplied through pipe 15 and ducts 16, 17, 13, 14 and nozzles 12, is blown over the upper surface of the wheel. The nozzles 12 are provided in a ring 11 clamped between the wheel 1 and a copper shielding disc 9. The burner 3 may have two or three nozzles for cutting a double-bevelled edge on the plate.
