Abstract

687,592. Piles. BRITISH STEEL PILING CO., Ltd., and LAKE, J. O. A. May 30, 1951 [July 13, 1950], No. 17581/50. Class 68(ii) A method' of and means for driving and forming cased concrete, piles comprises closing, the lower end of a metal casing 18 by a shoe 19 of a diameter greater than the outside diameter of the casing and having a shouldered neck portion 22, the end of the casing resting on the shoulder 24. The shoe and casing are then driven to the required depth by means of a hammer 20 operating within the casing on the shoe either directly or through a cushion of sand, removing the hammer and tilling the casing with concrete. The casing may be maintained in intimate contact with the shoe by the action of a doubleacting hammer 31 operating on the head of the casing.
