Abstract

687,140. Lanterns for elongated lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and SMYTH, J. B. S. July 31, 1950 [Aug. 2, 1949], No. 20120/49. Class 75(iv) In a lantern for elongated lamps a refractor is arranged with its prisms parallel to the lamps and both sets of prism faces are illuminated so as to transmit light in the same direction, one set by direct light from one lamp, the other set by direct light from another lamp or from an image formed by a plane reflector of the same lamp or of another lamp. The drawing shows a half transverse section of a transparent trough shaped lantern enclosing three symmetrically disposed elongated lamps, two of which 4, 5 are shown, and having on each of its side walls 2 two refractor plates 8, 9 secured thereto by adhesive. The two sets of prism faces of the lower plate 9 are flashed by direct light from the two lamps 4, 5 and the two sets of prism faces of the upper plate 8 are flashed by direct light from the upper lamp 5 and by an image of that lamp in a plane reflector 6 forming the top of the lantern. The bottom 3 of the lantern may be fluted. Specification 400,029 is referred to.
