Abstract

[Also in Division F4] In a street lighting unit of the type comprising a trough-shaped transparent body having a top cover and one or more tubular light sources mounted inside the body parallel to the long flat side walls thereof, at least two refractor plates are disposed on each long flat side wall and are so positioned that light emitted from the sources passes through each plate in turn before passing through the side wall. Each refractor plate has a plurality of light-directing prismatic formations on one surface thereof, and the Specification includes detailed measurements for the construction of a plate having 40 prisms. Preferably, one plate is cemented to the side wall with its prismatic formations directed to the wall and a second plate is cemented to the first plate with its prismatic formations directed to the flat surface of the first plate. The plates and the transparent body may be made of polymethyl methacrylate or the polymers or copolymers of vinyl chloride.
